New Webinar! Learning Experiences for the Many, Not the Few: Creating Equitable Immersive Education with Gemma Zeeman

Join us for a very special ThingLink Spotlight webinar with Gemma Zeeman, founder of Immersive Discoveries and a ThingLink Certified Trainer, as we explore how immersive 360° learning environments can make powerful educational experiences available to every learner.

Gemma will share the story behind her recent commissioned project for the Welsh Government’s national Hwb platform, produced through Adnodd.

Through Immersive Discoveries, Gemma works with schools, cultural organisations and national bodies to design and produce immersive resources at scale — and this project is one of her most ambitious to date.

The resource brings learners into four religious sites in Cardiff — a Hindu temple, a cathedral, a mosque and a synagogue — alongside a section exploring Humanism, all without leaving the classroom.

Created in ThingLink, the project combines 360° imagery, interactive hotspots, audio narration, video, embedded escape rooms and 360° music videos to support curriculum-linked learning in Religious Values and Ethics. It was designed to address a genuine equity gap — giving pupils access to rich encounters with diverse worldviews regardless of what their school can afford, organise or access in person. And as schools increasingly face not just logistical barriers, but growing community sensitivity around visiting places of religious worship, a virtual environment offers something a physical visit cannot: a space that is epistemically neutral, bilingual and accessible to every pupil in the room.

Explore Gemma’s Incredible Project

In this session, Gemma will share how thoughtful immersive design can support inclusion, build learner curiosity and help educators create experiences that feel present, purposeful and meaningful. She’ll also reveal two unexpected design decisions — embedded escape rooms and 360° music videos — that produced some of the most striking results in pupil feedback, and explore what both mean for how we think about engagement in immersive learning.

At the heart of the webinar is a powerful question: how can immersive technology help us create learning experiences for the many, rather than the few?

🎓 Your 5 Webinar Outcomes

By attending this webinar, you will learn how to:

1. Design immersive learning experiences that improve access and inclusion Explore how 360° environments can help remove barriers linked to cost, location, logistics, confidence and community sensitivity, while giving learners meaningful access to places and perspectives they may not otherwise encounter.

2. Use ThingLink to create purposeful, engaging and curriculum-linked exploration See how interactive hotspots, audio, video and embedded challenges can transform a virtual environment into an active learning journey that encourages curiosity, investigation and deeper understanding.

3. Use escape rooms to turn exploration into purposeful investigation Discover how embedding curriculum-linked escape rooms directly inside a 360° environment — rather than adding gamification as an afterthought — changes how learners engage. Pupil feedback from the RVE project showed that the element of being locked in genuinely motivated children to keep exploring and learning. We’ll look at how this design decision works in practice and how you can apply it in your own environments.

4. Use 360° music videos to create emotional connection and cultural resonance See how music video embedded within a 360° environment can deepen a learner’s sense of presence and connection in ways that audio and text alone cannot achieve — and why this is one of the more unusual and effective tools in the immersive designer’s kit.

5. Build authentic immersive resources through collaboration and thoughtful representation Learn how working with teachers, subject specialists, community voices and learners can strengthen the quality, accuracy and impact of immersive educational content.
