Introducing L.Michelle

L.Michelle Salvant is a visionary media educator and founder of LMichelleMedia, a creative tech and consulting company that helps students and organizations bring learning to life using immersive tools.

Through her work, she empowers students to engage in self-discovery and storytelling using emerging technologies like smartglasses, 360° video, and interactive platforms. Her company has collaborated with innovative leaders in the space, including ThingLink, to push the boundaries of what’s possible in immersive learning. At the heart of it all, LMichelleMedia is about helping people experience knowledge, not just consume it—turning education into something you can see, feel, and remember.

L.Michelle’s Project

I chose to highlight our Virtual Parade project because it really captures what immersive learning can do when it’s used with intention. For this experience, we created an interactive way for students to meet and greet each other virtually before ever stepping foot on campus.

Using ThingLink, we brought together visuals, audio, text, and more so students could introduce themselves—how they look, a little bit about who they are, and what they’re bringing to the table. What made it even more exciting was that they also got to showcase their avatars from our university’s custom Meta Horizon Worlds space. It was a fun, tech-forward way to break the ice and help them see both the real and virtual sides of their new community—all while getting comfortable with powerful immersive tools.

What inspired you to create this project?

This project actually started back during the pandemic, when we were trying to find a more personal—and safe—way for students to really get to know each other beyond the masks. We wanted them to be seen for who they truly were, not just a name on a screen or a covered face in a classroom. So we began creating these virtual introductions that showed their personalities, what they liked to do, and how they wanted to show up in the world. ThingLink gave us the perfect platform to turn that into something immersive and fun—a kind of meet-and-greet that actually felt meaningful, even in such a distant time.

How was this project delivered?

We showcased the Virtual Parade on Zoom, kicking things off with a musical video montage that really set the parade vibe—fun, energetic, and full of anticipation. Then we transitioned into the interactive experience, where each student’s profile came to life through visuals, audio, and storytelling. It wasn’t just about seeing names on a screen—it was about meeting the person behind them. What stood out most was how many students shared that they found unexpected commonalities with each other. Some even said it helped them feel more connected and confident—especially those who tend to be a little shy. It gave them a chance to ease into community in a way that felt personal, safe, and unique.

Do you have any other ideas taking shape?

Next, I’m really excited to dive deeper into using scenarios to tell student stories in a way that sparks real reflection and revelation. I want to start capturing the journeys of students who’ve made tough choices—and faced the consequences—and turn those into immersive, decision-based experiences. The idea is to let other students walk through those stories and see if they’d make the same choices or choose a different path. I also see ThingLink becoming our central hub for Immersive Journaling—where students can creatively document their lives and thoughts using multimedia tools. And I definitely want to get more students creating fun, interactive tours of their campuses and communities using AR and VR. It’s about turning their environments into living, learning spaces.

What do you love about ThingLink?

What I absolutely love about using ThingLink is all the immersive possibilities it opens up. From visuals and audio to full-on AR and VR experiences—it’s like storytelling with no limits. You can literally bring environments to life and let people step inside a story.

One of my favorite features is the Scenario Builder. We’ve used it to explore how students make decisions or walk through each other’s stories—and it’s always powerful. Add in the AI tools that take creativity even further, and it’s just next level. The best part? Students can create all of this. That’s the game-changer for me—seeing them take the lead, express themselves, and build experiences that are as meaningful as they are innovative.
