Travel Review: Ogunquit, Maine
July 5-7, 2016
Ogunquit, Maine is perfect for the beach lover. Located just 4 hours from Northern Westchester by car, my husband and I enjoyed 48 hours there recently. We stayed both nights at the Sea Chamber Motel. The Sea Chamber gets so many things right that you don’t worry about the details, like being able to hear everything going on in the next room. Awe-inspiring fantastic views of the Ogunquit coast? Check! Clean? Check! Family friendly? Check! Really, what else really matters? Maybe a prime location where you can easily walk to the beach, charming shops or restaurants? Check!
Our two nights here were memorable and very relaxing. Every time we walked out of our room, the most amazing view greeted us. Even the heated pool and hot tub area has a view! Don’t forget to grab a book or drink and go down to the lower patio and luxuriate in the view as you stretch out in lounge chairs and giving thanks to the gods for bringing you to this moment.
Looking to stretch your legs? Walk along the beach via the Wharf Lane access road or stroll along the magnificent Marginal Way to Perkins Cove. Ogunquit is loaded with restaurants and shops and if you decide to stay farther away, many hotels and motels are on the trolley line so you can leave your car and avoid the considerable town traffic. There are also art galleries galore, many featuring work by local artists.
If you’re up for a drive, go to Kennebunkport along the scenic Ocean Avenue route. This will allow you to drive by and admire Bush compound at Walker Point. On the way back to Ogunquit, stop at one of the area’s local thrift shops. A secret of the area are the fantastic finds to be had at local thrift shops. We scored a crystal punch bowl Ten dollars!
Dinner was a treat both nights! Try the Five-O for an elegant dining experience or upstairs at the 360 Bar at the Anchorage Inn for an amazing view with informal dining. We loved our time at Ogunquit and are eager to return soon! It was a short but perfect summer getaway.
