<div>MINDFUL OF WHAT’S IMPORTANT</div><div>“My daughter is in daycare, where she does art. She brings home something almost every day. But this was the first piece where she got paint on the paper, so we were really impressed. She did this when she was about 10 months old — I’m sure with a lot of assistance (laughs). I love that I can see it when I walk in and out of the office. It's a reminder that work isn’t all that matters because I have her to come home to.” </div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. GPS Photos has uploaded 523 photos to Flickr.
<div>ADVOCATING FOR STUDENT JOURNALS</div><div>“I’m a faculty adviser for GPS’s student-run Journal of International Policy Solutions (JIPS). These are some of the first issues from when I joined the School. I actually didn’t even know we had a journal until students asked me to serve as an adviser. That only further motivated me to get involved because I’d love to see ours become higher profile. It’s good for students to identify with the School while they’re here and maintain relations after they leave. While I still need to add this year’s JIPS issue, I keep these in my office to remind people we have a journal.”</div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. <div>REMEMBERING BEING RECRUITED</div><div>“When I was on the job market, I had offers from several schools. Cornell University was one of them. In addition to being a very good school, Cornell also is a hockey school. I played a lot of hockey growing up and was a goalie. That was my main pursuit. Aware of this, Cornell mailed me this hockey stick, which is signed by the female hockey team. When I broke the news to Cornell that I was headed to GPS, I promised I would keep the hockey stick in my office.”</div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. <div>TURNING PAGES</div><div>“I have read most all of these books and frequently use the mathematics and econometrics textbooks. Below this shelf there also are a few readers from graduate school, which I sometimes reference when writing, especially pertaining to micro theory. The less-reference books, I recommend them to students and, occasionally, I’ll cite them in a paper.”</div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. <div>ALWAYS IN AN EYESHOT</div><div>“This is Patrick Roy, who in his Canadian days was my favorite goalie ever. He revolutionized hockey goaltending. A family friend carved this of him for me when I was 6 or 7. I feel too old to hang it in my bedroom now, but I have to put it somewhere I can see it because I love it so much. And so, he lives in my office.”</div><div><br></div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. GPS Photos has uploaded 531 photos to Flickr.
<div>INSPIRATION IN HEIRLOOMS</div><div>“This paperweight was my grandfather’s. It was on his desk basically his whole life, though he didn’t sit at his desk much. My grandfather is among Canada’s longest serving diplomats, travelling around the world as ambassador to Iran, Israel, Finland and Nigeria, to name a few appointments. He had this wonderful career after having a very difficult childhood. His paperweight reminds me hard work can get you very far.”</div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr. <div>NEVER TOO OLD FOR NAPS</div><div>“I have a mattress and pillow under my desk because I take naps. I started doing this at work when I was pregnant because I was drinking less coffee than normal, so I couldn’t go a day without a nap. Then I realized a 15-minute power nap is good for productivity. I don’t nap every day. But on heavy teaching days, it certainly helps.”</div><div><br></div><div><br></div> www.flickr.com Explore GPS Photos' photos on Flickr.
