<div>What is an Ecoregion?</div><div><br></div><div>--An ecoregion is a geographically similar area.</div><div><br></div><div>--They have similar climates, animals, and plant species.</div><div><br></div><div>--There are 11 ecoregions in Texas...place a *star* on the ecoregion map in the region we are located (if you are not sure ask me).</div><div><br></div><div>--Species in ecoregions have adaptations for weather, elevation, soil, and amount of water available.</div>
<div>--Long term weather conditions in an area make up its climate.</div><div><br></div><div>--Climates determine the distributions of ecoregions</div><div><br></div><div>--Humans can have a positive or negative impact on ecoregions</div><div>----Example: in many regions forests have been nearly eliminated by humans.</div>
<div>Groups 1, 2, &amp; 3</div><div><br></div><div>--Includes:</div><div>----Pineywoods (1)</div><div>----Oak woods &amp; Prairies (2)</div><div>----Blackland Prairies (3)</div><div><br></div><div>--Characteristics:</div><div>----Rain is more common</div><div>----Includes forests and tall grasses</div><div>----Temperatures are more mild and has enough rain for forests to grow</div>
<div>Groups 4, &amp; 5</div><div><br></div><div>--Include</div><div>----Gulf coast prairies and marshes (4)</div><div>----Coastal sand plains (5)</div><div><br></div><div>--Characteristics</div><div>----Narrow islands of sand, marshes, dunes, and rivers draining into the gulf</div><div>----Hurricanes and tropical storms occasionally.</div>
<div>Groups 6, 7, &amp; 8</div><div><br></div><div>--Includes:</div><div>----South Texas brush country</div><div>----Edwards plateau</div><div>----Llano uplift</div><div><br></div><div>--Characteristics:</div><div>----Prairie grasses grow in much of this area</div><div>----Large thunderstorms and tornadoes common</div><div>----Drought is common, plants and animals must adapt to a dry climate.</div>
<div>Groups 9, 10 &amp; 11</div><div><br></div><div>--Includes:</div><div>----Rolling plains</div><div>----High plains</div><div>----Trans pecos</div><div><br></div><div>--Characteristics:</div><div>----Desert of west Texas</div><div>----Receives very little rain</div><div>----Dryer climate, hot, windy</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
<div>Think About It</div><div><br></div><div>--An oil spill off the coast of Mexico has been reported, what ecoregions will this effect, how will they be effected?</div><div><br></div><div>--A large tornado touches down in the rolling plains, how will the climate effect the damage done by the tornado?</div><div><br></div><div>--Explain the difference between a desert area such as the Trans Pecos and a region experiencing drought. How are the plants an animals either adapted to deal with their environment or effected by their environment.</div><div><br></div>
