Brain Josh Johnson
Frontal Lobe: -found in the frontal and upper area of the cortex - the frontal lobe carries out higher mental processes such as thinking, decision making, and planning Frontal Lobe - The Brain Made Simple
Parietal Lobe: - the parietal lobe is found in the upper back part of the cortex - it processes sensory information that has to do with taste, temperature, and touch. Parietal Lobe - The Brain Made Simple
Temporal Lobe: - found in the bottom, middle part of the cortex - it is responsible for processing auditory information from the ears (hearing) Temporal Lobe - The Brain Made Simple
Occipital Lobe: - found in the bottom, back part of the cortex - it is responsible for processing the visual information from the eyes Occipital Lobe - The Brain Made Simple
Cerebellum: - found in the lower area of the brain, below the pons - responsible for the balance and coordination of muscles and the body Cerebellum - The Brain Made Simple
Motor Cortex: - located in the rear portion of the frontal lobe - it is responsible for getting signals and sending them to the muscles to make them move.
Visual Cortex: - located in the very back of the portion of the occipital lobe -the visual cortex is responsible for processing images seen from your eyes
Sensory Cortex: - found as a strip of cortex that runs ear to ear on the top of your brain in the parietal lobe - it is responsible for the sense of touch, anything you touch or feel goes to the sensory cortex also known as the somatosensory cortex
Auditory Cortex: - located in the temporal lobe right above the ears - it is the region of the brain that dispenses sound (your voice) and also responsible for your ability to hear
Prefrontal Cortex: - located on top of the frontal lobe, the prefrontal cortex covers the front part of the frontal lobe - it is responsible for a person's behavior and personality, Phineas Gage is a great example, he was a fun hard working man until.. he was working on the rail road and a metal rod went through his brain and he changed from then until he died. He was known as rude, and unpleasant to be around.
Broca's Area: - located in a region in the frontal lobe of the dominant hemisphere of the brain - it is responsible for language processing and can effect the ability to speak that language
Wernicke's Area: - one of the two parts of the cerebral cortex - involved with the written and spoken language, it causes you to be able to speak clearly and know what you are saying, if something happens to it, you can still speak but will not completely know what is going on
Limbic System: - a series of structures surrounding the cerebral hemispheres and the brain stem - the structures are known to associate areas with emotional and motivational processes such as the motive for me to do this project. -The structures are involved in learning, motivation, emotion, and memory. -without the limbic system it would be hard to solve problems or even get through the normal day.
Brain Stem: - it is the stem-like part of the base of the brain that connects to the spinal cord - the brain stem is responsible for controlling the flow of messages between the brain and the rest of the body the brain stem also controls basic body functions such as breathing, blood circulation, swallowing, heart rate, and whether you are sleepy or not - The brain stem contains three main parts the mid brain, pons, and the Medulla Oblongata
