Desertification is often caused by the overgrazing of animals, which means that animals eat so much of the grass that it cannot reproduce.
www.un.org The World Day to Combat Desertification is celebrated every year on June 17 all over the world in order to highlight the urgent need to curb the process of desertification. Desertification puts at risk the health and well-being of 1.2 billion people in more than 100 countries.
Desertification is the destruction of arid ecosystems caused by human activities and climate change.
edienet.s3.amazonaws.com
Desertification is an environmental problem. In the past it helped several large empires fall, this is caused by intense farming which erodes the soil, the destruction of trees for fuel wood and other wooden needs, and the increase of human population which means that there are not enough plants and soil is overused.
media.treehugger.com
So how can we solve this problem? To stop desertification the number of animals in an area must be reduced, allowing plants to regrow. Soil condition must be in good shape for plants to grow. Mulching is a good way to do this. I
t is a cover of leaves, straw, or sawdust on the soil. This reduces evaporation, weed growth, enriches the soil as it rots, and prevents runoff hense erosion.
imgc.allpostersimages.com

Places that have been or are affected by desertification are
Nigeria
Dry Lake California
Salt Lake city
Southern Kalihari
Chine, etc.
It is one of the most challenging environmental problems of our time. Did you know that 42% of the very poor and 32% of the averagely poor are directly affected by desertification? i.unu.edu
The UNCCD is working to fight against this problem.
So where does this occur? Well there is no comeplete answer to this question. Desertification is most likely to occur where there is overpopulation.
earthuntouched.com
