The Taj Mahal was built very generously in memory of Shah Jahan's third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. That's a lot of money spent for just one wife!
The whole reason I chose to study the Taj Mahal in the first place was because of its architecture and its beauty. The arches and domes of the building made of white marble with the shine strongly appeal to me. Also, the reflective water and trees in front of it add special affects.
Important fact! While the Taj Mahal was built, over 1000 elephants were used to haul building materials.
The Taj Mahal has different coloring at different times of the day: from pinkish hue in the morning, to milky white in the evening, to golden at night when lit by the moon. Some say this changing of coloring resembles the changing mood of females-the Emperor's queen mostly.
Many precious stones were ripped from the walls of the Taj Mahal by the British during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
