Miami's 2012 Senior Class Plays its Final Home Game Saturday
A two-year starter at punter, Botts has appeared in 22 career games in two seasons at Miami. As a junior in 2011, he finished the season second in the ACC with a 42.7 yards-per-punt average. Botts, a 2012 Ray Guy Award nominee, currently ranks seventh in the ACC with a 40.5 yards per punt. Prior to Miami, Botts spent his sophomore season at Moorpark CC and his freshman season at Bakersfield College, where he played both quarterback and punter. Buchanan has spent five years in the Miami Hurricanes program, but each of his last two seasons have been cut short by injury. As a freshman in 2008, he played in nine games on special teams and then moved to outside linebacker in 2009, playing all 13 games. As a junior in 2010, he started 10 of 13 games and finished fifth on the team in tackles with 54. As a senior in 2011, he played and started four games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury against Bethune-Cookman. In the second game of 2012, the fifth-year senior again suffered a season-ending injury at Kansas State. The 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member has played in 48 games as a Miami Hurricane and as senior in 2012 has become one of the team’s dominating offensive forces. James ranks second on the team with 529 rushing yards and 5 TD. He has 1,248 career rushing yards and earlier this season became the 38th 1,000-yard rusher in program history. The converted receiver is enjoying his best season as a Miami Hurricane with 21 catches for 348 yards through 10 games. As a junior in 2011, he saw action in 10 games, mostly on special teams and recorded three tackles. In 2010, he played in three games, while starting one on special teams after redshirting in 2009. As a true freshman in 2008, he played in 11 games and made his career-first start at Virginia. He caught five passes for 71 yards with a TD against the Cavaliers. He also ran track for UM as a freshman, participating in the 100- and 200-meter as well as the 4x400-meter relay team during the outdoor season and the 55- and 60-meter and 4x400-meter relay team during the indoor season. The 2011 Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year played in three games in 2012, including a start vs. NC State before suffering a season-ending injury. In 2011, he participated as a member of scout team, but did not see any game action. After playing defensive line at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, Kelly transferred home to play for the Miami Hurricanes. Named the team’s 2010 Nick Chickillo Most Improved Player, he started all 12 games at safety in 2011 and finished fourth on the team with 59 tackles. Wieclaw was the team’s 2011 Special Teams MVP after converting on 11-for-14 on field goals and 39-for-39 on point-after attempts. He played in all 12 games in 2011 and all 10 games in 2010. In last season’s meeting at USF, he converted a 36-yard field goal as time expired to lead the Canes to a 6-3 victory over the Bulls.
